AWEC
Our Story
Empower Women in Kenya
Amstrong Women Empowerment CBO (AWEC) was started in 2016 by a group of women in
Kano plains, Kadibo Division in Nyando Sub- County of Kisumu County, Amstrong Women
Empowerment CBO was registered as a Community Based Organization under the Ministry of
Gender, Children and Social Development Kenya on 30th March 2016.
Many women in rural areas are not career holders and continue to multitask amid fewer
opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. It is against this backdrop of myriads of poverty related
challenges such as gender-based violence, discrimination and lack of access to socio-economic
opportunities in rural areas that AWEC is committed to finding sustainable ways of empowering
marginalized and vulnerable adolescents and young people, teenage mothers and adult women in
Nyando sub-County.
The organization chose to develop women capacity to respond to social determinants of health and
crafted a women volunteer champion approach that empowers women to be able to inspire,
innovate and sustain positive development outcomes in the society.
Our Mission
Build capacity of Women to address societal determinants of health.
Our Vision
To create a free, just and equitable food secure community through localized industrial
development.
Core Values
AWEC sees the following values as critical and integral to her work.
Transformation
We believe that for positive sustainable transformation to occur it must be addressed at three levels: personal empowerment and responsibility, community revitalization, and
societal transformation.
Excellence
We believe that those we serve deserve the best. We are an organization that is continually learning and sharing; creating models of good practice that can be replicated countrywide.
Relational
We recognize the importance of good relationships and strong, mutually beneficial
partnerships. We seek to put those we are serving first while being humble and learning
from others.
Highly Effective
We seek to be catalysts of change to make the most significant positive impact with the
limited resources available. This means that we are strategic in how we use our resources, limiting ourselves to addressing a few priority issues and those in greatest need. We also ensure accountability in how the resources are used.
Empowering
We seek to strengthen the capacities and address the vulnerabilities of those we serve.
This also includes encouraging development of skills and access to resources for self-sufficiency.
Passionate
We are passionate about those we work for and passionate in all that we do. We seek to be creative and imaginative in finding sustainable solutions to addressing issues of women and girl child advocacy, drug abuse, environmental conservation among the youth and curbing HIV/AIDS pandemic while empowering our members to be resilient to effects of climate change.
Come join us
We need to reshape our own perception of how we view ourselves. We have to step up as women and take the lead.
