For four transformative days, the rural areas of Homa Bay County came alive with meaningful conversations, community empowerment, and practical solutions to pressing challenges. Through vibrant dialogues and impactful interventions, we brought health, gender rights, and empowerment directly to the people, breaking barriers and amplifying their voices.
What Went Down?
1. Health Rights & GBV Dialogues
We dove deep into the heart of community challenges by addressing health rights and gender-based violence (GBV). Together with the community, we:
- Named and confronted the main perpetrators of GBV.
- Tackled root causes such as poverty, drug abuse, poor parenting, and lack of basic needs.
- Empowered participants with knowledge of the GBV referral pathway to ensure victims know where to seek help.
2. Land Rights Debates
In rural Kenya, land is synonymous with power. Discussions on equitable access to land brought forward bold ideas and perspectives, reinforcing the importance of fair distribution and ownership.
3. Security & Economic Talks
Local leaders facilitated engaging discussions around safety, economic empowerment, and promoting diversity within the county. These talks aimed to inspire confidence and solidarity within the community while fostering sustainable solutions to common problems.
Free Medical Camp – Healthcare for All!
One of the biggest highlights of the program was the free medical camp that brought critical healthcare services to the grassroots. The impact was monumental:
- Infants Immunized – Giving every child a healthy start in life.
- Expectant Mothers Attended ANC Clinics – Safe motherhood is key to a thriving community.
- Cervical Cancer Screening & Family Planning – Empowering women with the knowledge and resources to make informed health choices.
- Malaria & HIV Testing & Treatment – Promoting health awareness and access to essential care.
Who Made It Happen?
This incredible initiative was a collaborative effort spearheaded by:
- Homa Bay County Government
- Armstrong Women Empowerment Centre
- CATAG Organization
Their combined effort and commitment to change have set a strong foundation for long-lasting community transformation.
