Spiritual Checkup/ Lifestyle of Healthy Living- Series 3
When taking care of our body, also known as the Lord’s temple, it is a balancing act. Achieving physical wellness and fitness should not be self-consuming. God is to be glorified when healthy living and self-control is part of a lifestyle of being fit. By doing so, we are more effective in our daily walk with Him and our relationship with others. When we feel good we are more energetic and enthusiastic, not only for the benefit of ourselves, but others as well.
A few key elements of healthy living and self-control:
- Stress control
- Exercise
- Dietary moderation
Scripture reference: 6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
We are to work toward self-control in everything “And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.“1 Corinthians 9:25);
Especially food “Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? ” Matthew 6:25
And drink “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit” Ephesians 5:18.
We are to avoid gluttony “Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags” Proverbs 23:20-21.
Consistent daily activity can help us have a happy and fit lifestyle. We should always have an attitude of gratitude and always be thankful to God. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
